My family can't tell the difference between when I play classical music or game music on the piano. Unless its something really obvious, like Mario or some such.

My mom just play that popcap games like zuma and bubble shooter. My dad only play Car games (most of them like Need for Speed) and the only FPS that he have played in his life was Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Sadly, that kind of thinking is very usual.

Well my one of my brothers used to argue that VGM isn't music. To which I argued ad nauseum that it was.
Anyone who says it isn't music should be asked the following "How do you define real music?" If the answer is "It has lyrics" proceed with "What is classical music then?"
Most people these days accept that I listen to it. If I go out, I'll take my VGM with me and play air drums along with what I'm listening to. And I don't care if people stare or make fun of me doing my air drums, just means that I'm interesting.

My parents have never been gamers, so they're pretty indifferent to video game music. I have one brother who probably has every video game song ever on his computer. My wife doesn't hate video game music at all. She's actually quite the fan of a lot of it, especially if it's from Monkey Island or Chrono Trigger especially.

My little brother thinks it's cool that I play some, although no one else really cares.
